History of Romanov’s Series stamps

The history of Romanov Series postage stamps is unique. And perhaps it fully opens distinguishing features of Russian national character and of the processes in the Russian society in early XX century.
The project on a series of postage stamps with portraits of the reigning Romanov family had been prepared for about 10 years. Emperor Nicolas II personally participated in the development of that project, timed to 300-year anniversary of the Romanov House (As many European monarchs the Russian Emperor was not indifferent to postage stamps collecting.
Multi-year effort resulted in coming out of fourteen postage stamps with portraits of those monarchic persons who ruled the country and three stamps with architectural ensembles. All seventeen post miniatures were made by outstanding Russian masters in painting and graphics I.Ya. Bilibin, E.E.Lansere and R.G. Zarrynsh.

History of Tiphlis Unique

The history of famous Tiphlis Unique had been a mystery for the world philatelic community for a long time. And at the same time the fate of Tiphlis Unique closely linked with the history of the Russian State since its origin in the middle of XIX century till nowadays.
First national postage stamp of Russia came into the market in December 1857. First postage stamp of the city of Tiphlis – on June 20, 1857, i.e. about half a year earlier…
Issue of the postage stamp in Tiphlis was an element of reforms of the Caucasus Post Service. Those reforms were executed by the Russian Emperor aldermen through the middle to the end of the 50s of the XIX century (1850s).
However, here, one cannot but note special status of the Tiphlis Unique: that stamp was issued half a year before the first official postage stamp of the Russian Empire, but in essence it also was the first stamp published on the territory of Georgia.
