Secondly. In their socialist childhood many citizens of our country impressed philately as their hobby. Perhaps, that is the reason why postage stamps are still so attractive for many of us. Among the stamps one often finds miniatures – real artworks. And historic stories of some postage stamps cast a spell. In the childhood we got familiar with other worlds and cultures through postage stamps. As Internet today in its time stamps exchange served as important source of uncontrolled data for those who wished to get it. But -the most important- is that collection of stamps (unlike, for instance, collecting paintings, that was accessible to only a few) realized instinct to investing.
Afterwards that instinct was successfully suppressed by the socialist reality, but there were exceptions which may become a norm for present time. Similarly to recent situation when financial attractiveness of artworks of Russian painters – Aivazovsky, Kustodiev, Solov, Goncharov – opened to the world business community and cost of their paintings overpassed the mark of million dollars, postage stamps of our country are more and more active in gaining positions in the international auctions (official auctions and direct purchases). Cost of some postage stamps exceeds $ 200 000.00 USD (we’ll periodically inform you about it).
Fourthly. The history of Russian postage stamps is unique indeed. And in terms of investment absolutely attractive fact is that as the most rare postage stamp in the world The Guinness Book of Stamps determined the Russian stamp (Kotelnicheskaya Zemski Post Office No.1).
Fifthly. This year is 150 anniversary of issuing the first official postage stamp of Russia. And 50th anniversary of launch of the first man-made Earth satellite. In our opinion those two events should be linked to each other just because in both cases key word is “communication” – post, or modern, satellite one. Postage stamps connect people geographically and historically. But perhaps the most important point is that both postage stamp and satellite (sputnik) give cause for real pride for our culture and capability of technological break-throughs.
